PLANTING and AFTERCARE GUIDE
Best Planting Time
  • Spring: Plant Actaea ‘Queen of Sheeba’ in spring when the soil has started to warm. This ensures strong root development and supports the plant’s growth throughout the season.
  • Autumn: Planting in autumn allows the roots of Actaea ‘Queen of Sheeba’ to establish before winter, promoting vigorous growth in the following spring.
Site Selection
  • Sunlight: Actaea ‘Queen of Sheeba’ thrives in part shade, but it can tolerate full shade as well. It’s best suited for locations that receive filtered light or morning sun with protection from the intense afternoon heat.
  • Soil: This plant prefers consistently moist, well-drained soil. For best results, plant it in rich, humus-filled soil that retains moisture without becoming waterlogged.
Planting Instructions
  • Preparing the Hole: Dig a hole that is twice the width of the root ball and deep enough to comfortably fit the roots of Actaea ‘Queen of Sheeba’.
  • Soil Preparation: Incorporate compost or well-rotted organic matter into the planting area to improve soil structure and moisture retention.
  • Planting: Place the plant in the center of the hole, ensuring that the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface. Fill in with soil, gently pressing it down to remove air pockets.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil around the roots. Keep the soil evenly moist, especially during dry periods, to prevent the plant from drying out.
Feeding
  • Spring: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring to give Actaea ‘Queen of Sheeba’ the nutrients it needs for healthy growth.
  • Mid-Season: A second feeding in mid-summer can help prolong blooming and maintain the plant’s overall vitality.
Pruning
  • Deadheading: Remove spent flowers to encourage new blooms and maintain a tidy appearance.
  • Autumn: After the blooming season ends, cut back the stems to the base to prepare the plant for winter dormancy.
Mulching
  • Spring: Add a layer of organic mulch around the base of Actaea ‘Queen of Sheeba’ in early spring to conserve moisture, suppress weeds, and enrich the soil.
  • Winter: Apply a thicker layer of mulch before winter to protect the roots from freezing temperatures and ensure the plant emerges healthy in the spring.
Supporting the Plant

Due to its height, Actaea ‘Queen of Sheeba’ may need support, especially in exposed or windy areas. Staking the plant early in the season will prevent stems from bending or breaking.

Actaea ‘Queen of Sheeba’ is a bold, low-maintenance perennial that brings both beauty and fragrance to any garden. Its impressive height, unique dark foliage, and late-season flowers make it an excellent choice for shaded areas. Regular watering, occasional feeding, and a protective layer of mulch will keep this plant thriving year after year. Perfect for woodland gardens, shaded borders, or as a focal point in part-shaded areas, Actaea ‘Queen of Sheeba’ will enhance your garden with elegance and stature.
