PLANTING and AFTERCARE GUIDE
Best Planting Time

The best time to plant Cosmos bipinnatus ‘Xanthos’ is in spring when the soil is workable and beginning to warm, allowing plants to establish quickly.

Site Selection

Sunlight: Cosmos thrives in full sun, which encourages strong growth and abundant flowering throughout summer.

Soil: Well-drained soil is ideal. Cosmos will grow well in moderately fertile soil, and overly rich soil may produce more foliage than flowers.

Planting Instructions
  1. Dig a hole twice the width and the same depth as the root ball.
  2. Improve the soil with compost if needed to improve structure and drainage.
  3. Place your Cosmos in the hole with the top of the root ball level with the soil surface.
  4. Backfill gently, firm lightly, and water thoroughly after planting.
Watering Requirements

Water regularly while Cosmos bipinnatus ‘Xanthos’ is establishing, then reduce watering once established, only watering during prolonged dry periods.

Feeding

Apply a light balanced fertiliser in early summer to support flowering, but avoid overfeeding as Cosmos bipinnatus ‘Xanthos’ flowers best in moderately fertile soil.

Pruning

Deadhead regularly to encourage continuous flowering and keep your Cosmos looking tidy throughout the season.

Mulching

Apply a light mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds, helping plants grow steadily and flower well.

Final Tips

With full sun, well-drained soil, and regular deadheading, Cosmos bipinnatus ‘Xanthos’ will produce masses of soft lemon flowers from summer into autumn, making it an excellent garden and cut flower plant.
