Hawthorn Hedging (Quicks)

A BIRD FRIENDLY HEDGE. The leaves first appear in spring followed by a spectacular display of stunning white scented blossom. In autumn the hawthorn develops red haws (berries), which sustain our native birds in winter, its sharp thorns also provide a safe place to roost and nest. It supports more than 150 species of insect, rich food for birds such as wrens and blue tits. A fast growing hedge, expect up to 2ft per year. Container plants can be planted anytime of year, plant 6ins apart and keep well watered throughout the growing season. Suitable for all soil types and all sites other than dense shade or very wet soils. Trim after flowering or in the autumn. Dig in a bag of our Farmyard Manure when planting and top dress each spring to improve soil.
