PLANTING and AFTERCARE GUIDE
Best Planting Time
  • Spring: Ideal for planting Aconitum x cammarum ‘Bicolour’ when the soil begins to warm up. This timing supports robust root development and establishes the plant well for the growing season.
  • Autumn: Planting in autumn allows the roots to establish before winter. This is particularly advantageous in preparing the plant for vigorous growth in spring.
Site Selection
  • Sunlight: Aconitum x cammarum ‘Bicolour’ thrives in full sun to partial shade. For optimal blooming, choose a location that receives plenty of sunlight throughout the day.
  • Soil: This plant prefers well-drained, rich soil. Although it can adapt to various soil types, Aconitum flourishes best in soil that is consistently moist but well-drained.
Planting Instructions
  • Preparing the Hole: Dig a hole that is approximately twice the width of the root ball and deep enough to accommodate the root system comfortably.
  • Soil Preparation: Enrich the planting area with compost or organic matter to improve drainage and soil fertility.
  • Planting: Position your Aconitum in the centre of the hole, ensuring that the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface. Fill in with soil and press gently to remove air pockets.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil around the roots. Continue to water regularly, keeping the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
Feeding
  • Spring: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser to support the growth of the plant as it emerges from dormancy.
  • Mid-Season: Consider a second feeding after the plant has bloomed to extend its flowering period and promote overall vitality.
Pruning
  • Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flowers to encourage continued blooming and maintain the plant’s appearance.
  • Autumn: After the flowering season, cut back the plant to ground level to prepare for winter dormancy.
Mulching
  • Spring: Apply a layer of mulch around the base of Aconitum x cammarum ‘Bicolour’ to help retain soil moisture and suppress weed growth.
  • Winter: In colder periods, add extra mulch to protect the roots from harsh temperatures.
Supporting the Plant
  • Staking: While Aconitum generally has strong stems, staking may be necessary in windy areas to prevent potential damage or bending.

Aconitum x cammarum ‘Bicolour’ is a stunning and relatively low-maintenance perennial that can elevate the beauty of any garden space. Good healthy plants!

I have bought a large number of plants so this comment covers all of them. The packaging was excellent which kept all the plants in great condition when they arrived. The plants were well-grown and still damp. They are not big enough to put into my heavily planted boarders so will be put in a nursery bed until big enough to cope. There is no reason why they should not do well. Very pleased with my purchase and told other people about the nursery.

I ordered many other plant varieties with this order and they all arrived quickly, well packed and in a healthy condition. Time will tell how well they do, but so far so good. Good value and customer service and I’d use Proctors again.
