PLANTING and AFTERCARE GUIDE
Best Planting Time
  • Spring: Plant Agapanthus ‘Turquoise Princess’ in early spring once the soil has warmed up. This encourages strong root development and ensures a vibrant display throughout the growing season.
  • Autumn: Alternatively, planting in autumn allows time to establish its roots before the colder months. This helps the plant to acclimate and prepare for the next growing season.
Site Selection
  • Sunlight: Agapanthus thrives in full sun. Ensure the plant receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily to promote optimal flowering and healthy growth.
  • Soil: Opt for well-drained soil to avoid water-logging. Agapanthus prefers soil that is moist but well-drained. Enrich the soil with organic matter if necessary to improve drainage and fertility.
Planting Instructions
  1. Preparing the Hole: Dig a hole twice the width and the same depth as the root ball. This ensures ample space for the roots to spread and establish themselves.
  2. Soil Preparation: Incorporate compost or organic matter into the soil to enhance its texture and nutrient content. This will help your plant grow vigorously.
  3. Planting: Position your Agapanthus in the hole so that the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil. Backfill with soil and gently firm it down to eliminate air pockets.
  4. Watering: Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil around the roots and initiate the establishment of the plant
Watering
  • Growing Season: Once established, Agapanthus is relatively drought tolerant. Water moderately during dry spells to maintain plant health and ensure continued flowering.
  • Dormant Season: Reduce watering as the plant enters its dormant phase. Ensure the soil remains slightly moist but avoid water-logging.
Feeding
  • Spring: Apply a balanced fertiliser in early spring to support new growth and vibrant blooms.
  • Mid-Summer: A light feeding in mid-summer can help to prolong the blooming period and keep Agapanthus ‘Turquoise Princess’ looking its best throughout the season.
Pruning
  • Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming and maintain the tidy appearance of Agapanthus ‘Turquoise Princess’.
  • Autumn: After the final bloom, cut back Agapanthus ‘Turquoise Princess’ to ground level to prepare the plant for dormancy and ensure it returns strong the following year.
Mulching
  • Spring: Apply a layer of mulch around the base of the plant to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature.
  • Winter: In colder conditions, mulch helps protect the roots of Agapanthus ‘Turquoise Princess’ from extreme temperatures and stabilises the soil.
Supporting the Plant
  • Staking: While Agapanthus ‘Turquoise Princess’ typically has sturdy stems, staking may be beneficial in windy areas to prevent any damage or bending.

Agapanthus ‘Turquoise Princess’ is a versatile and low-maintenance perennial that adds a touch of elegance to any garden. Its compact size and dazzling white flowers make it an excellent choice for both borders and containers. With proper care, Agapanthus ‘Turquoise Princess’ will provide a stunning display of flowers throughout the growing season.
